Cultural events

Rounds of applause not given become a miss for everyone. Let’s share them together!

Your mind also wants a holiday. It wants melodies, surprises, imagery, dancing, twists of plot, curtain calls, and happy endings. Not to mention hearty rounds of applause. Don’t miss out on nurturing your emotions and your imagination with Santa Eulària’s cultural events. Our programme caters to young and old alike, and spans the length of the calendar year.

The range of civic centres located in our municipality is as wide as it is varied, from modern, functional venues to the open-air stages we install in our streets and plazas during festivals. The Teatro España, the Palacio de Congresos de Ibiza, and the Cultural Centre of Jesús are three of our main public venues where hours of cultural diversion await you. In addition to our annual fixtures, there are other events such as music series, storytelling sessions, exhibitions, conferences, gastro-musical happenings, etc. So don’t think twice: when you plan your trip to Ibiza, check out the Santa Eulària cultural agenda and take back a handful of laughs and cheers when you go home!

Barruguet Family Theatre Festival

Dreams, adventures, and tall tales have no age. Nor does the magic conjured up on a live stage! If you’re travelling to Ibiza with children, don’t miss our Family Theatre Festival, dedicated to the mischievous local gremlin known as the barruguet, whose antics are specially designed to be enjoyed by youngsters – although oldsters will laugh as well! This engaging offering is held on the fourth weekend in May with a programme that brings together numerous national and international theatre companies who put on some 20 different shows, some free, others for a small fee. And, if you’re visiting from abroad, don’t worry. The Barrugeut Family Theatre Festival also offers performances based on mime and music.

PLATEA

If you’re the type of person who always checks the cultural activities available at your destination, Santa Eulària des Riu offers a variety of theatre, dance and circus performances. From April to December, our municipality welcomes PLATEA, a national curriculum designed to promote the performing arts across Spain. Roughly ten shows make up its annual schedule, allowing you to enjoy the special magic of live performances on the stages of the Jesús Cultural Centre and the Palacio de Congresos de Ibiza, PLATEA’S two official venues in our municipality. Next time you come to Ibiza, we hope to see you out in the lobby!

International Piano Competition of Ibiza and International Music Festival of Ibiza

If the piano is one of your favourite instruments, look for this competition in Santa Eulària’s cultural agenda. It is held every two years in Sant Carles de Peralta between the end of August and the beginning of September, having been celebrated regularly since 1987. Over the years, the contest has consolidated into one of Europe’s most popular and relevant piano ‘play-offs’, a fact attested to by the prestige of its jury at every one of its biennial conclaves. This not-to-be-missed rendezvous for piano lovers includes both classical and contemporary pieces. Additionally, we offer the International Music Festival of Ibiza, which allows audiences to enjoy performances by relevant national and international artists for symbolic prices.

Festival of the First Sunday in May

To celebrate the important local ‘fiesta’ that takes place every year on the first Sunday in May, the town of Santa Eulària stages a number of cultural events over the course of several weeks, activities such as exhibitions, performing arts, and open-air concerts. One of the main attractions is a free concert offered on the actual day of the fiesta in the square in front of the Town Hall, always headlined by a well-known band in the Spanish music world.
