Winter

Winter is the best time of year to discover all of our secrets

Another Ibiza comes out in winter. One that looks inward, toward its villages, its churches, its farmhouses, wells and museums. Toward its valleys and pine-covered hills. And toward the country trails that call out to walkers and cyclists. Winter is a time of festivals and tra-ditions. It is a time to talk to locals and to discover the season’s main wealth: the people of Ibiza.

When autumn comes, the unknown side of the island peeks out, and those who in summer stayed close to the shore now venture further inland. This is the beginning of a golden time for lovers of tranquillity, gastronomy, culture, outdoor activities and sports competitions. Any excuse will suffice for a visit to Santa Eulària during the off season! And, if it’s spe-cial, romantic places you love, during this time of year you can sleep in charming hotels, many of which are nestled into welcoming rustic farmhouses. Our winters are mild and bring us many sunny days with pleasant temperatures, ideal for walking or just sitting on the terrace of a café, sipping coffee.

Get to Know Our Villages One by One

Visiting all of Santa Eulària’s villages at your own pace, or following the itinerary suggested in the Cultural Route, is one of the imperatives of the winter season. As you wander through them, you can explore Santa Eulària’s picturesque rural churches, browse round the shops, or relax at one of the traditional island bars, all features of the local winter landscape. Enjoy life’s simple pleasures in our charming slow-placed villages: Santa Eulària, Santa Gertrudis, Sant Carles, Jesús and Puig d’en Valls.

Winter Markets: Open Year Round

Frequenting Ibiza’s hippie markets has become a small obsession for many of our visitors. In wintertime, too! One of the best places to shop for treasures in Santa Eu-lària is Las Dalias, the legendary hippie market located in the outskirts of Sant Carles. During the off season, this market opens every Saturday from morning to dusk.

Family Routes: Hiking and Bicycle Tourism

Santa Eulària des Riu has a plethora of signposted trails and rambling rural roads. These hilly pathways guide walkers and cyclists along dramatic coastal bluffs as well as inland through some of the most beautiful tracts of our municipality. Our routes are always circular and offer both walking walking and cycling trails (ranging from easy to medium), which are designed to be family-friendly.

Two of the easiest walking routes are R8, whose nearly 7 kilometres traverse the lovely fields of Santa Gertrudis, and R4, which over the course of about two hours leads walkers along part of the Santa Eulària coast, the lower stretch of the river, and finally to the interesting Ethnographic Museum of Ibiza and Puig de Missa. If you prefer travelling on two wheels, you will find both bike rental companies and easy cycling trails such as R6, R4 and R3.
